Job Summary: As a High Voltage Technician at Frank Keane Volkswagen, you will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of electric and hybrid vehicles, particularly those from the Volkswagen brand. You will work with cutting-edge technology and high-voltage systems to ensure the safety, performance, and longevity of these vehicles.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Diagnostic Assessment: Conduct comprehensive diagnostic tests and inspections to identify issues with high-voltage systems, batteries, electric drivetrains, and associated components.
  2. Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and advanced repairs on electric and hybrid vehicles, including battery servicing, charging system checks, and powertrain component replacements.
  3. Safety Compliance: Adhere to strict safety protocols and guidelines when working on high-voltage systems, ensuring the safety of both the technician and the vehicle.
  4. Documentation: Maintain detailed records of all service and repair work performed, including diagnostic findings, parts used, and labor hours.
  5. Software and Firmware Updates: Stay up-to-date with the latest software and firmware updates for electric and hybrid vehicles, and ensure these updates are correctly installed.
  6. Customer Interaction: Interact with customers to explain diagnostic findings and repair recommendations, provide cost estimates, and answer any questions or concerns related to their electric or hybrid vehicles.
  7. Quality Control: Ensure that all work is completed to the highest standards and meets Volkswagen's quality and safety requirements.
  8. Parts Ordering: Identify and order necessary parts and components for electric and hybrid vehicle repairs, and manage inventory effectively.
  9. Training and Development: Keep up-to-date with the latest advancements in electric vehicle technology through training programs and certifications provided by Volkswagen or other relevant organizations.

Requirements:

  1. An automotive technology or electric vehicle technician program is preferred.
  2. Certifications: Relevant certifications in electric vehicle technology, high-voltage systems, or hybrid systems are a requirement.
  3. Experience: Previous experience as an electric vehicle technician or high voltage technician is essential. Volkswagen-specific experience is a plus.
  4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment, in-depth knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle systems, and a strong understanding of automotive systems and components.
  5. Safety Awareness: Demonstrated commitment to safety, with knowledge of high-voltage safety procedures and protocols.
  6. Communication: Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information in a clear and understandable manner.
  7. Team Player: Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and collaborate with other technicians and service staff.

Frank Keane Volkswagen are currently looking for ambitious and career orientated individuals to work in our state of the art Volkswagen dealership. Future-proof  yourself in the motor trade as the role we are advertising is for ideally someone looking to progress their career through training and development in a fast paced modern dealership. We are actively looking to fast track our technicians through training and High Voltage training to provide our customers with a standard of work 2nd to none. 

The Role

The ideal candidates will be based in our Sandyford Dealership, based in Furze Road  experienced in all aspects of vehicle servicing and diagnostics and be capable of producing high quality work in a busy environment.  Responsibilities include

  • Performing work as outlined on the job card with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and Volkswagen standards.
  • Communicating with parts department to obtain needed parts, inform workshop manager if vehicle is awaiting parts and pursue special order of parts if necessary.
  • Diagnosing cause of any malfunction and perform repair after confirming authorization by customer.
  • Saving and tagging any and all parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by customer.
  • Examining the vehicle and performing vehicle health checks to determine if additional safety or service work is required.
  • Notifying service advisors immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs can not be completed within the time promised.
  • Road-testing vehicles to spot check work performed.
  • Keeping abreast of Volkswagen technical bulletins and attend factory sponsored training classes.
  • Maintaining a clean and neat workspace and adhering to all company policies, procedures and safety standards

Requirements

  • Qualified technician, ideally working with a Volkswagen Group brand, however not completely necessary.
  • Ability to clearly complete job card write ups with a thorough understanding of the requirements of factory standards for warranty write-ups.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to identify and explain additional work required to service advisors or customers as required.
  • Previous experience on engine/transmission repairs/rebuild/replacement would be an advantage.

  • Proven experience in automotive after-sales management, dealing with a high volume brand is essential, preferably in a dealership environment,
  • Strong understanding of automotive service operations, including technical knowledge of vehicle systems and maintenance procedures.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a track record of building long-term customer relationships.
  • Proficiency in dealership management software (Keyloop preferrable).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on driving results and continuous improvement.
